24 of February: QUALITIES OF A GOOD TEACHER

Image
In previous entries we have seen some of the features related to a good tutor and teacher, specially with one of the activities that we have developed (the Harry Potter one). In today’s class, we have deepened in this concept. Teachers, to be good, must have certain qualities related mainly with interpersonal and intrapersonal skills (to know about myself and, specially, to know about the others), and how to manage them in order to perform correctly. A good teacher must be competent. As I mentioned in previous entries as well, I consider that even though anyone can teach to others, not everyone can be a teacher (and even less a tutor). Teachers must be competent, there are many qualities and characteristics that they should have. The knowledge that we acquire while preparing ourselves to be teachers is reachable by almost everyone, however, having and applying the necessary skills in different situations is something so difficult to teach, and that is why there are teachers that ha

21 of February: HISTORY OF E.G.

Image
Today we have discussed about our thoughts of the Harry Potter activity, the one that we have made the previous day. The main ideas that I can get from this are that almost everyone (including me), consider that Lupin is a better tutor and teacher as he does not only explain his subject really well, but also is much warm, approachable and helper (in the personal development) than Snape is. To continue, we have talked about some history of Educational Guidance, we talked about some authors that had contributed to this concept, its evolution… Even though it is an important topic to take into consideration when talking about educational guidance, comparing this class to others that we have had I have found it less interesting. However, to conclude the class and to see if we have understood the topic, we have played a short kahoot! Personally, I get really stressed with this kind of games, as I usually tend to react and answer quickly rather than think about the question and the cor

17 of February: TUTORS AND HARRY POTTER

Image
I have to start this post by saying that today has been, until the date, my favourite day (mainly because of the activities we have done) so far. In relation with the content that we have seen, today we have reviewed some of the other part of the subject: Tutorial Action. Until now we have only seen topics related to educational guidance, but this time we have reflected upon the concept of tutor, which is the one that is in charge of guiding you through all the educational process. The reflexion starts when talking about the qualities or the way of performance that a teacher and a tutor should have, in other to be the best. In my opinion, it is easy to be a good teacher, teach something is usually not complicated, as you just have to learn about the topic you have to explain and have some resources in order to make it understandable for those who are learning it. The problem is when talking about being a good tutor. Not everyone that is good at teaching is good at tutoring, as (a

14 of February: CONCEPT MAP

Image
Today, the main activity that we have done is the creation of our conceptual map. For this, the teacher has brought a mental map that had the main wh- questions that we have reviewed last class. Each person (or group) had a paper with a concept related to educational guidance, and we had to put it in the wh- question that we thought it was related to. In that way, the whole class had participated in the creation of this concept map. One of the main reflections that we have made in common is related to who is the one that receive educational guidance. And we end up in the conclusion that everyone, everyone that is involved in it receives or are affected by it. As a reflexion of this activity, I consider that it has been really useful, at least for me as I usually tend to do mental or concept maps when I study and I want to organize my thoughts or the content I am trying to learn, as I think is not only visual, but a quick and clear way to relate the content between the links tha

10 of February: WH- QUESTIONS

Image
Firstly, I have to mention that none of the members of my group could attend last class, so we missed the activity of the visual metaphors of each group. However, today we have focused on a quite interesting topic: the wh- questions. We went deeper in this topic, as we did not only talk about what we already knew about the wh- questions, but its meaning or what do they englobe.  We have also learned about the differences between values, aims and principles.   All of this theoretical background will help us with the activity that the teacher has proposed to the next class: a mental and conceptual map. We had also to decide which type of map we wanted to create: the mental or the conceptual one. Finally, we have chosen the conceptual map.

03 of February: DEFINITION OF E.G (3.0) AND VISUAL METAPHORS

Image
Again, we have focused on the definitions, as each team had to propose its own definition. My team (who we have decided to call “PAN”) has proposed the following: Educational guidance is an essential intervention in the school life of students with the implication of teachers, families and all the educational team working with the pupil. The main goal of an educational guidance is to obtain a better education and environment for the individual. However, today we have focused our class on the visual metaphors. A visual metaphor is an image/picture representation of something which purpose is to suggest an association or similarity to another concept, and our task was to create one per group in order to understand better the process that happens in educational guidance. I consider this practice very interesting, as I think it not only helps to develop creativity in those who make it, but also helps everyone to internalize better some concepts, process… Here you can see a video of h
